Noah Hoffeld is a cellist, composer and singer-songwriter living and working in New York City. Equally at home in Classical Music as in Pop and Improvised music, Noah's made a name for himself playing in very varied environments around the world and as a composer for film and the stage.

Noah was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Child of an artistic family, he began piano studies at age 8 and cello at 9. He sang in choirs and as soloist as a boy soprano including in the Boys’ Choir of the Metropolitan Opera. In high school, he studied cello with Ardyth Alton in the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School and received the Hayden Prize for Cello and Theory, while attending Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights. Noah received a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School in ’93, studying first with Zara Nelsova and then with Joel Krosnick of the Juilliard Quartet. He was teaching assistant to Andre Emelianoff at The Bowdoin Music Festival and received a Master’s Degree from the San Francisco Conservatory in ’97, as a student of Bonnie Hampton. He now carries this tradition as a private cello teacher.

After graduate school, Noah turned his ear to improvising. He has continued his classical pursuits while performing Jazz, Rock, R&B, and World and Spiritual Music of different faiths, playing New York venues as diverse as Joe’s Pub and Carnegie Hall and touring internationally. Noah has performed and recorded with some of the greats of these genres, including Smokey Robinson, Pete Seeger, John Cage, Brad Meldhau, Glen Velesz and Steve Gorn, also collaborating with some of his brightest peers, New York singer-songwriters and bands, Automatic Arms, Pharaoh’s Daughter and Edison Woods, to name a few.

As singer-songwriter, Noah performs regularly in New York City. He has recorded an EP, co-produced with Frederic Rubens, with Fernando Isella, Argentine multi-platinum artist on keys and Aaron Johnston of Verve’s hit band, Brazilian Girls, on drums. Noah accompanies his own singing on electric guitar and piano, with hints of cello here and there. The album has been praised for the freshness of the sound and the power of the songwriting and delivery. A full-length CD is in progress.
